James Harrison is born 4 May, 1978. James Harrison a top American football linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the National Football League. He was signed by the Steelers as a undrafted free agent in 2002. He played college football at Kent State.
He grew up in Akron and his favorite NFL team was the Cleveland Browns who played only 40 miles from his house. His mother did not want him to play on first. It took both Harrison and his best friend from childhood, David Walker to convince her.
Harrison failed to get a football scholarship he decided to attend Kent State University. Kent State coaches were thrilled to have such talent on the pitch, but his academics were still poor.
Harrison was able to raise his GPA to a 3.0 and treated practice much more seriously. As a senior he was selected as a team captain. Harrison left Kent State in 2002 a few points shy of a bachelor's degree in general studies.
He was signed by Baltimore in late 2003 and then sent to the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe, but eventually cut from the Ravens. After being cut into a fourth time, Harrison was not playing anymore. He thought of becoming a veterinarian. He then decided to get a commercial driver's license just as his father had.
